Getting Better Twitter Followers

After my recent post on Twitter marketing, here are some other ways you can maximise the use of your Twitter account to get the best out of your current followers and gain new followers that really do want to follow you.

Get Your Followers Involved

If you have a new song or album coming out try to get your followers involved. Maybe post images and details of the whole recording and production process and ask your followers for their thoughts, criticisms, or ideas. Maybe even provide a sample of the album and get feedback from it. You may be surprised at how happy people are to provide their feedback if they feel a connection with you.

Getting your followers involved in something important to you gives them a sense of control and significance since it’s their feedback that could determine how you move forward. This is a great way to forge better relationships with fans and start new conversations. Not only that but you also now have a product that’s in high demand and is likely to pull in droves of new followers anxious to get involved.

Give Something Away

Another way to get your followers involved, or to simply gain more followers, is by giving something away. Everybody likes a good freebie and if following you gets them access to something they can’t get anywhere else, it’s likely they’ll give it a try.

Here are some ideas based on examples I’ve come across in the past:

  • Ask followers to retweet a promotional post in return for a free download of your latest track or an unreleased demo.
  • Offer a free prize (of value) to anyone that is following you. You might need to publicise this one a little outside of Twitter but can help gain a load more followers.
  • Offer a prize (of value) to anyone that retweets your post. You can include a URL in this post to a place that sells your music, a press release or news page or even a free downloads page full of promotional downloads.
  • Offer free tickets or backstage passes to the 50th person to visit a URL posted to Twitter.

There are many ways you can use Twitter to gain exposure, followers and trust. Generally the best followers are those that are willing to follow you because they are interested in what you have to offer.

Gaining random followers, or buying them, reduces the overall ratio of followers that are truly interested in you or your band or music and is likely to reduce the success rate of your posts – particularly for any URLs you post. Having people follow you because you interest them allows room for a much more successful campaign – even if it’s just to post the occasional URL to your latest release or big piece of news.

I hope this has given you an insight into how  you can work with Twitter to gain exposure in new ways and provide real-time results for any promotions or news you may have.

Please note: I don't claim to have all the answers and here on my blog I can only give you ideas and suggestions from my own knowledge and experience within my own niche. Since I know very little about what you do exactly and can only cover a number of angles in each post, if you you can add anything please do so for the benefit of our reader in a comment - I'd be most grateful.

Music Marketing UK Blog Owner
Welcome to my Music Marketing blog. I have been actively involved with online promotion for many years now, both professionally and in my spare time, and being an active musician for the best part of 9 years I felt I needed to share my knowledge and experience with those that would be most appreciative and could put it to good use.

My aim here is to combine the two areas into manageable chunks and present tips, ideas and inspiration for anyone wanting to promote their music online and offline and generally get one foot above the rest, set themselves apart from the average and achieve what they want to achieve musically. I'm hoping the information I post here can help you do just that.
