Does Google Like Your Website?

If you want to get people onto your website from search engines such as Google, Yahoo and Bing you need to ensure your website complies with their guidelines. There are a lot of techniques that you can implement on your website that don’t do it any good – either the search engines can’t see what you’re showing your visitors (using javascript, for example) or it goes against good practice and can be seen as a spammy technique (like repeating words in your text to rank your site higher). How can you ensure your website complies to their guidelines and that the search engines end up liking your website?

First of all, read up on the guidelines offered on the search engine websites. Google’s webmaster guidelines are a great place to start. Also check out Yahoo’s search quality guidelines as well as Bing’s guidelines for successful indexing.

Feed the Bot is a good resource as this takes those guidelines and breaks them down for you to follow and understand better, breaking down the areas that you need to address to ensure your website is up to scratch in terms of the search engines – design and content, quality and the more technical areas.

Follow the guidelines laid out at these places and you’ll be well on your way to a better website that the search engines love and are happy to send people there. One that doesn’t meet their guidelines is unlikely to be indexed in the search engines and you won’t be getting any traffic from a site that isn’t indexed.

Finally, if your website has recently disappeared from Google, ensure it follows the above guidelines and submit a reconsideration request to them. If they can see your site now follows their guidelines they may include you in their indexes again.

Please note: I don't claim to have all the answers and here on my blog I can only give you ideas and suggestions from my own knowledge and experience within my own niche. Since I know very little about what you do exactly and can only cover a number of angles in each post, if you you can add anything please do so for the benefit of our reader in a comment - I'd be most grateful.

Music Marketing UK Blog Owner
Welcome to my Music Marketing blog. I have been actively involved with online promotion for many years now, both professionally and in my spare time, and being an active musician for the best part of 9 years I felt I needed to share my knowledge and experience with those that would be most appreciative and could put it to good use.

My aim here is to combine the two areas into manageable chunks and present tips, ideas and inspiration for anyone wanting to promote their music online and offline and generally get one foot above the rest, set themselves apart from the average and achieve what they want to achieve musically. I'm hoping the information I post here can help you do just that.
