So, how can you get good promotion at MySpace? Well, it’s quite simple, although I can’t say that it comes all that easily. Time is the main factor you need to put into such things these days if you want it to work out well for you. So I recommend you set aside some time to make sure all the bases are covered before you start pouring blood, sweat and tears into promoting your MySpace profile.

So, how to get better at promoting your MySpace profile… Just a few tips.

  • Update your MySpace blog regularly with news and updates – even if small or not quite band-related. If it’s interesting someone will read it and it’s always worth tying it into what you do in some way.
  • Include occasional links in your posts or bulletins to either your website or your MySpace profile page or other posts. This helps the users to interact with what you have to say and are likely to visit your profile again, add you as a friend or comment on your blog post or profile.
  • Try to engage with your friends in any way possible without spamming them. You’d be surprised at how many people will pay you more attention if they are interested in what you have to say. They may even willingly provide critique on your latest demo if they feel involved enough.
  • Include links to other social media sites, Twitter in particular. This way people can find out up-to-date news on your band or music easily and when they are on the move. This helps you keep in touch with your fans and friends even when they are away from your profile.
  • Include a newsletter sign up form. Take the one from your website or point them in the right direction to signing up. Not everyone checks their MySpace profile every day – or week – so do what you can to get the news updates to them quicker.
  • Include a banner or link to your website. If someone visits your profile and wants to know more information make sure they have somewhere to go and get it.
  • Tell people about your profile. Not only does this get people visiting it, it can also encourage people to link to it and drive traffic to it. Don’t blatantly request links as you’ll likely get your profile banned from Google as this goes against their terms and service, but feel free to broadcast yourself to the world.
  • When people do link to your site you can reward them with a free download of your latest track. This will help them feel like they’ve supported you and are likely to keep your link on their website – even recommend you.
  • When someone links to you, request that they use something other than your band name. Although this is good for branding, people don’t often search for you as a band – particularly if you aren’t a big name in the area/country. Instead, request they use something like ‘music producer leicester’ or something equally as descriptive of the service you provide.
  • Run a contest to get people adding you to their ‘top friends’ lists. This might need some kind of reward for people taking part but could drive a lot of traffic to your profile and increase the awareness of your existence. You could also broadcast the competition launch on Twitter or your website or newsletter. Do the same with the announcement of the winners. Why focus on one social media site when you can integrate them all?

There are various other ways you can get better promotion using MySpace but these are just a few I could think of from the top of my head.

Please note: I don't claim to have all the answers and here on my blog I can only give you ideas and suggestions from my own knowledge and experience within my own niche. Since I know very little about what you do exactly and can only cover a number of angles in each post, if you you can add anything please do so for the benefit of our reader in a comment - I'd be most grateful.

Music Marketing UK Blog Owner
Welcome to my Music Marketing blog. I have been actively involved with online promotion for many years now, both professionally and in my spare time, and being an active musician for the best part of 9 years I felt I needed to share my knowledge and experience with those that would be most appreciative and could put it to good use.

My aim here is to combine the two areas into manageable chunks and present tips, ideas and inspiration for anyone wanting to promote their music online and offline and generally get one foot above the rest, set themselves apart from the average and achieve what they want to achieve musically. I'm hoping the information I post here can help you do just that.
